• This section would be open to all NZ artists to create something unique from driftwood.
• Artists could begin work anytime using a variety of tools and materials – no restrictions – but the bulk of the artwork must be driftwood.
• Artists would need to deliver their art to Gisborne (a venue yet to be selected) for display in an Opening Night presentation on Friday 8th October and Saturday 9th October. The presentation night would be an invite only Wine and Food function and formally opened by the mayor. Winners would be announced on the night. On Sunday 10th art would be moved for display in shop front windows of retail outlets that are part of Heart of Gisborne. It would be on display for a week.
• Art work would be limited to 50 pieces and no more than a meter in height and a meter in width.
• Artists would need to register via a website by paying a $50 registration fee
• Art can be available for sale and no commission is payable but art must stay on display for the week.
• It is the artist’s responsibility to deliver and collect any unsold art – The Gisborne i-SITE Visitor information centre will assist artists where possible.
Categories – prizes will be awarded for the following sections
• Open - 1st Prize $1000 2nd $500 3rd $250
• Best Local Artist - 1st Prize $500 2nd $250 3rd $100
• The Driftwood Art Awards week would be 8th – 14th October – any unsold art may also be able to be displayed at the A& P Show on 15/16th October.
• We would invite well- known artists from around NZ to enter and display. We feel the quality of the art is most important. We would be appointing a Project Manager to ensure all details are considered.
• Tourism Eastland would seek national media coverage for artwork and promote the week as part of the Creative Tairawhiti - October Art Month. We would aim for national TV coverage.
• A website would be created to show the art and all art would be photographed and displayed on the website and available to be purchased on line.
To be the overall and naming rights sponsor is $5,000 – this would include full naming rights to both categories of the event.
Sponsor would receive:
• Logo in all promotion through the website, email, posters, radio and newspaper.
• Radio Network and Gisborne Herald have given a commitment to support this event and acknowledge the naming rights in publicity.
• Your logo on display with each art piece displayed including in all the shop front windows for a week.
• Tourism Eastland would be promoting this event as part of the October events and sponsors name would be included in all advertising and publicity.
• Invites for your clients to the Gisborne Designer Art Awards opening night.
• Should the Gisborne Driftwood Art Awards become an event that gains national publicity the sponsor would have the first option to sponsor next years event
