Gisborne District - Guest Numbers and Guest Nights 

Tourism Eastland commissions APR consultants to survey people staying with Friends and Relatives and Statistics NZ to provide data on visitors staying in Commercial Accomodation. The following Excel table is a spreadsheet that records these statistcs. Please read them carefully as there are many reasons for people visiting Gisborne such as: Business, Sports/Hobbies/Recreation, General Holiday, Visiting Family or Friends and Events. NZ Accommodation Pivot Tables 

This information can be drilled down to detailed statistics on the Gisborne district for tourism, click here for details. It will download in Excel and may take some time as it is a relatively big file. Please not these stats are only commercial accommodation and do not include visitors staying with friends and relatives. These visitors at certain times of the year can make up 50% of visitors to the Gisborne district.

Select the middle option Territorial Authority and then select Gisborne for local stats.

  • International Visitor Arrivals (IVA) by port of entry (for those RTOs with an international airport)
  • International Visitor Survey (IVS)
  • Domestic Travel Survey (DTS)
Please note that due to sample size restrictions, not all RTOs have IVS or DTS data.

 

Toursim Satellite Account (TSA)

The TSA measures the impact of tourism on the New Zealand economy. This allows for industry assessment and comparison with other sectors. The measurements include the impact of total expenditure and the direct and indirect contributions to GDP, employment and taxation.

Forecasting 

The Tourism Research Council of New Zealand's forecasting programme is designed to anticipate future tourism demand. Their forecasts include international visitor arrivals, nights spent, expenditure, regional activity of international visitors and NZ outbound and domestic travel.

It enables users, producers and researchers to quickly find all available official statistics.
